'BRATS!'
Ex Boy Soldiers, for many a year now, have affectionately and proudly termed themselves 'ex Brats'! Presumably 'Brats' was originally a derogatory term placed on the said youngsters by their adult counterparts who, usually, were a bit envious and/or in 'shock and awe' (and certainly often a little 'narked' too!) of and by those who had learned the basics of Service life whilst they had been enjoying the 'gentle' life of a 'civvy' teenager! However, those same adults usually soon realise that it is easier to instill such values into youngsters -- who cannot understand what all the fuss is about anyway. Eventually, like all Servicemen of that time ..... young and not so young gelled and learned to work with and for each other.
There follows just one "ex Brat's" remembrance of his days in the form of a Web log ('Blog'), during the late 1950s and the early 1960s, in two different such establishments ('Institutions'?!) for your possible interest. The intention is for the reminiscences to be 'irregularly updated' in the fashion of a sort of 'backdated Web log'!! I hope you enjoy the experiences related as we progress through 'MY Early Life':

Please don't confuse our meaning of the term 'Brat' used here with its later connotation in the Services ... a son or daughter of a serving member of the Armed Forces. In our case, and in those days, the term refers specifically to a young Serviceman i.e. below 18 years of age. |
